Barnett Jackal Crossbow Package is easy to use, safe and reliable. This one is a Good starter crossbow, can be upgraded for hunting. it works well, looks good and puts meat on the table. What more do you need?
If you are new to crossbows here is a little secret. This is why beginners “claim” they can’t get any consistency with their crossbow. They don’t know what they are doing. This leads to poor reviews on any item. So, don’t forget to get an actual “Crossbow” target and not one for just compound bows for sighting in.
Barnett Jackal Crossbow Package Review
The bow however, is very accurate and easy to use. Using this, it is very accurate right out of the box. The crossbow is well made, easy to assemble (it does require minimal assembly) and all in all seems to be just what you want actually.
Extremely powerful
The Jackal crossbow has almost no recoil. Powerful enough to hit at 50 yards, but it probably won’t kill a deer beyond 50 yards even if you were a good enough shot. You won’t need a scope if you’re closer than 10 yards. Make sure you get a rope cocking device and save yourself the energy and aggravation of trying to cock this by hand. it’s a pain to even get one of them out of the block, but nearly impossible when the bolts are that close. There is a little white piece that has grooves on one side that the cables sit in while sliding in the fore-end on the stock. If you forget to install this the cable will fray and snap which may cause severe injury. Also remember to keep all strings waxed and use some rail lube on the flight deck
Totally safe to use
Auto safety of the product is nice and easy to use. Trigger is also perfect. It does not come with a rope cocking assist, just make sure you use the rope cocking device correctly. The hole that connects the stock to the bow was drilled off center. There is *no problem* with this crossbow being consistent. If you are hunting whitetail deer – 35/40 yards no problem with this crossbow. The bow will still perform at 50 yards but it’s not quite fast enough for a 50 yard shot at these fast Alabama whitetail deer. They will “Jump the bowstring” at this range. That is, they have time to jump at the sound and run.
Perfect functioning
Other than that one glaring discrepancy, the bow shoots great and is incredibly accurate. You’ll need strong hands for this. You will need your own small flat-tipped screwdriver when sighting it. The assembly is fairly simple, other than adding the plastic slide to the cross cables, bolts (arrows) that come with it are also “fine” for backyard target practice. Adjust the handles for the proper rope length, cut the rope and mark which side is left and/or right so you don’t need to guess everytime you cock it.
Easy installation
This piece opens up another month of hunting. Power and accuracy are certainly there, no complaints for a 220 dollar bundle.
To those who complain about the safety not being able to disengage, you need to push the bolt all the way back so the dryfire safety is depressed. Just follow directions. Though the three red dots make it harder to use. Assembly is fairly easy as the bow comes pre strung.
Specifications:
- Very nice x bow for the price.
- The xbow is so powerful
- The cocking device is not needed. It is actually easier on the back to cock manually than it is with the device.
- The quiver is good enough. Plus, you don’t really want string wax all over your hands every time you cock it.
- This Jackal seems to be a lot lighter, easier to cock and has a very good trigger. At 35 to 40 yards this Crossbow delivers the arrows/bolts to the vitals of the deer target.
- It’s so fast that by the time the deer hears the sound, the arrow will have already passed through the animal. So, it is Very nice scope.
- The rope cocking device makes it possible to lock the string consistently thus making the bolt hit the target consistently.
FAQ:
As a beginner, can i start with this bow?
If you practice enough with the bow, you can cook it silently in the trees stand and take a second shot. Also, part can not be attached period. Even with putting one washer on each of the two bolts, lock washers for both bolts will not fit.
How can I combine those parts easily?
The figure is about the size of a big stamp and the small parts of that drawing still do not show the “must” us washers. So twist the bolts down tight and check often and be glad it isn’t any other more critical part of the overall unit. All else seems solid as a rock.
Is there any safety cautious to follow?
Simply attach the prod housing to the riser with the provided screw. The only tough part is getting the crossed strings lined up properly with the plastic piece and into the rail in the stock because the strings come pre-lubed and it gets slippery. but the quiver mounting bracket is weak and will break eventually.
Final words:
Overall, it is an Awesome crossbow worth every penny! The Jackal combo is a very good value. Can you spend more on a crossbow? Sure, but this one is plenty fast and it won’t break the bank to purchase it. If you need a great crossbow to take hunting – buy this crossbow.Unless you are ready to spend over a grand this is the one for you. If you can drop a grand on a crossbow, please send me some money! You have too much! You will probably be at work anyway so you will not have time to hunt!
Get some real string wax, not the greasy kid stuff that comes for lubing the rails. Get a target designed for crossbows. You will need one. Don’t waste your time (and money) destroying arrows with an insufficient target. They will go right through it and will eventually ruin the arrow and/or rip the fletchings completely off. We recommend this one.
